Supporting Cause

Team UNIS Running through Madras Inner Strength Half Marathon supports the cause of Cerebral Palsy via the Inner Strength Trust (80G).

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a problem that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills. … CP often is caused by brain damage that happens before or during a baby’s birth, or during the first 3-to-5 years of a child’s life. Cerebral Palsy is considered a neurological disorder caused by a non-progressive brain injury or malformation that occurs while the child’s brain is under development. Cerebral Palsy primarily affects body movement and muscle coordination. Cerebral palsy is not genetic; it is a disorder that can sometimes result from a brain injury experienced at birth, but in most instances, physicians are unsure of its cause. It is not, however, a disease that is passed along through DNA.

A variety of therapies play an important role in treating cerebral palsy:
• Physical therapy. Muscle training and exercises can help your child’s strength, flexibility, balance, motor development, and mobility. …
• Occupational therapy. …
• Speech and language therapy. …
• Recreational therapy.

Additionally, the proceeds were given to My First Steps, a pediatric physiotherapy clinic, to aid the yearlong physiotherapy treatment of 15 underprivileged children.
